Game Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts was killed when his Maine Warden Service Cessna 185F plane crashed near Schooolhouse Pond in Avon shortly before 11:00 a.m.

Warden Pilot Tibbets was en route to assist the Department of Inland Fish and Wildlife in fish stocking when his plane crashed. He was the only person aboard the plane.

Warden Pilot Tibbetts had served with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife – Warden Service for 18 years and previously served with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office for almost 12 years. In 2025, he received the Warden Service’s Exemplary Service Award. Survivors include his two daughters, partner, stepdaughter, parents, sister, nephew, two nieces, and former spouse. His father also served wth the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife – Warden Service.
