Detective Joe Pollack died from complications as a result of contracting COVID-19 while assigned to the impact team that was involved in the arrest and detention of several suspects at 9985 Park Meadows Drive in Lone Tree. One of the suspects tested positive for COVID-19.
Detective Pollack was a United States Marine Corps Reserve veteran and had served with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for over 19 years. He had previously served 20 years with the New York City Police Department and was part of the 9/11 recovery efforts. Detective Pollack is survived by his wife and three children.
Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.
