Investigator Richard Humphrey died from complications as the result of contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty.
Investigator Humphrey had served with the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office for four years. He had over 27 years in law enforcement, having previously served with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee as well as the Foley Police Department and Bay Minnette Police Department in Alabama. He is survived by his son, daughter, ten grandchildren, his parents, one brother, and two sisters.
Beginning in early 2020, due to the requirements of their job, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the United States contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic. Hundreds of law enforcement officers died from medical complications as a result of contracting the virus while remaining on duty and interacting with the community.
