Special Deputy Marshal Anthony McGrew died after contracting COVID-19 while on duty at the federal courthouse in the Frank M. Scarlett Federal Building in Brunswick, Georgia.
Special Deputy Marshal McGrew was a U.S. Navy veteran. He had served with the United States Marshals Service for two years and had previously served with the Kingsland, Georgia, Police Department for 11 years. He is survived by his wife, three children, and three grandchildren.
In early 2020, thousands of law enforcement officers and other first responders throughout the country contracted COVID-19 during the worldwide pandemic due to requirements of their job. Many of these first responders died as a result of COVID-19.
